Karla Morris

DISTINGUISHED RESEARCH SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Karla Morris is a mechanical engineer who has taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and at The City College of New York (CCNY).  

Karla founded and jas led the PGAS Applications Workshop (PAW-ATM) at the SC18-SC21 supercomputing conferences since the first workshop in 2018.  She also led PAW-ATM’s predecessor, the PGAS Applications Workshop (PAW) at SC16-SC17 supercomputing conferences in 2016 and 2017.  She is the editor for the conference proceedings and serves as the Co-Editor for the peer-reviewed software engineering of Computing in Science & Engineering magazine.

Karla conducted Postdoctoral research at CCNY’s Benjamin Levich Institute for Physico-chemical Hydrodynamics. She is currently a principal member of technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where she conducts research in formal methods for national security systems.  Karla’s software development experience includes serving as the lead developer of ForTrilinos, an object-oriented Fortran interface to Trilinos software library, and contributing to nuclear energy applications for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  She has published research studies on computational fluid dynamics for turbulent flows in quantum and multiphase systems, software engineering for computational science, and formal methods. 

Karla holds Ph.D., M. Phil., M.E. and B.E. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The City University of New York.
